Wild field herb seed bags

Since 2018, the administration office of the biosphere region has been supporting the re-establishment of wild field herbs in the Berchtesgadener Land. By growing this seed mixture, you are making an important contribution to the preservation of biodiversity in the Berchtesgadener Land and supporting the wild bee project of the biosphere region, sponsored by Allianz Insurance.

Know how to do it

Wild field herbs are light germinators. To sow, they therefore need open soil that is free of vegetation. In the garden, you can dig the planned area half a spade deep and prepare it so that a finely crumbly surface is created. In flowerpots, use finely crumbly potting soil. The seeds are spread over the surface; the amount in the pack is enough for about 2 m2. To sow, you can mix the seeds with a little sand to make it easier to distribute them evenly. If the seeds are sown too densely, they will compete with each other, so make sure that you use a maximum of 2g of seeds per m². The seeds must remain on the surface to germinate, but must be pressed down well to ensure a good water supply. The germination time of field weeds is between 1-3 weeks in good conditions. During this time, make sure that the soil remains moist. When the herbs have finished flowering, you can collect the seeds directly from the plant or let the seeds fall into the soil. If you prepare the planting bed again next spring by removing the plant remains and gently moving the soil, new wild field herbs can bloom.
