Sustainable Living and Business Practices
in the Berchtesgadener Land Biosphere District
The Berchtesgadener Land Wirtschaftsservice GmbH, the administrative office of the UNESCO Berchtesgadener Land Biosphere Region and the administration of the Berchtesgaden National Park are in close contact with the aim of setting sustainable, future-oriented impulses in the region. Sustainability Goal No. 17 calls for close cooperation between state, economy and society. All three of the institutions see great potential for positioning Berchtesgadener Land as a sustainability region based on the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
Taking into account the different messages of the National Park and the Biosphere Region, various offers are available to businesses to actively support sustainable development and future viability of the region – according to their respective level of development in terms of sustainable management as well as their identification with the different areas. Transparency and exchange with synergy effects for the participants are guaranteed.
Network "Responsible Management" & Partner of the Berchtesgadener Land Biosphere Region
With the network ‘Responsible Management’ and the partner initiative ‘Partner of the Berchtesgadener Land Biosphere Region’, companies, businesses and economic organizations in the Berchtesgadener Land are offered opportunities to improve in the area of sustainability, to take responsibility and to position themselves in a credible way.
While the network focuses on the improvement of responsible management by setting goals and promoting the identification with the Berchtesgadener Land, the biosphere partner initiative requires that sustainable management is already anchored in economic processes. Furthermore, Biosphere Partners see themselves as ambassadors of the Biosphere Region. The focus is on the harmonious development of man and nature.
A catalog of criteria forms the basis, which takes into account nature conservation and environmental protection as well as social and economic concerns. The award ‘Partner of the Biosphere Region’ demands additional qualifications.
Partner Initiative of the Berchtesgadener Land Biosphere Region
The regional network of companies, organizations and associations aims to unite and further develop sustainable action on site. The partners see themselves as ambassadors of the national park idea and communicate this to their guests. They position themselves as national park-friendly and environmentally conscious actors in the region. The four core areas of identification, environmental orientation, regionality and quality/service, form the basis of the exchange platform in combination with the 17 sustainability goals, freely following the motto “Together for the Vertical Wilderness”.
Sustainable Development Goals - SDGs
In 2015, 193 member states of the United Nations adopted 17 goals to advance sustainable development. These are to be achieved by 2030. They are intended to promote sustainability worldwide at the economic, social and ecological levels. This is to make the world a fairer, healthier and more peaceful place. They are an important basis for the educational work of the Biosphere Administration Office. Each and everyone can work towards a sustainable world.
